A budgeting guide using day rates listed on TheTM provider profiles.

Day rates shown on provider profiles under General Leadership on TheTM have a median of £1,000, with the middle 50% between £500 and £1,500. That benchmark covers 477 UK providers in data extracted on 21 October 2026. Across a broader group of 1,722 UK providers listed under leadership and management-related subjects, the median is £800. Use these figures to frame your budget, then ask providers to price your team’s specific needs.

The median is the midpoint of the listed rates. The middle 50% describes the central spread, so £500–£1,500 is not the full range of prices. The £800 benchmark includes a wider set of subjects, such as general management, coaching and performance management. The two groups overlap.

For an HR or L&D manager planning a leadership programme, the £1,000 figure gives an initial daily reference. The next question is what that rate buys: how much delivery, for how many managers, with what preparation and support?

What should your leadership training quote cover

Before requesting prices, describe what needs to improve. The CIPD’s Learning needs analysis factsheet, dated 20 August 2025, recommends connecting learning needs with organisational capability and performance gaps. A clear brief helps providers propose and price work relevant to your team.

For example, explain that ten recently promoted managers need practice giving feedback and handling difficult conversations. Include their experience, the situations they face and what you want them to do differently afterwards. Then ask providers to set out the following elements.

Delivery time and group size

Confirm the number and length of sessions, who will facilitate and the participant limit. Ask whether everyone can learn together or whether the provider proposes smaller groups. Establish the total delivery required before multiplying a day rate by the number of days.

Preparation and customisation

Ask how the facilitator will get to know your team and adapt the sessions. Does the quote include a briefing call, participant input and exercises based on your workplace? Have any separate design or needs-analysis charges shown alongside delivery.

Materials venue and travel

Check who supplies the room, equipment and learning materials. Ask about travel, accommodation, online platform access and relevant licence charges. For sessions at your premises, confirm what you need to provide and whether there are any additional setup costs.

Qualifications and assessment

If you want an ILM qualification, ask for the exact award and whether registration, assessment and certification are included. ILM’s fees information for 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027 explains that candidate fees vary by qualification, assessment and payment route. Request the complete learner price, including any charges outside delivery.

Follow-up and evaluation

Decide what support managers need after a session. That could mean practice tasks, coaching or a later review of how they are using the learning. Ask the provider to explain and price its proposed follow-up, including who takes responsibility for checking progress.

VAT and booking terms

Ask for the VAT treatment on the written quotation and check payment, cancellation and rescheduling terms. The profile data does not establish whether VAT is included or excluded. Use the supplier’s confirmed total when seeking budget approval.

How to budget for ten managers

Suppose you are considering two days of delivery with one facilitator for ten managers. The following illustration uses the lower quartile, median and upper quartile of the General Leadership benchmark as day-rate assumptions.

£200 per manager

£1,500

£3,000

£300 per manager

These are illustrative delivery amounts, not supplier quotes. They assume that one facilitator can work with all ten managers and that the same daily rate applies to both days. The per-manager figures divide that assumed delivery amount by ten; they are not advertised individual course fees.

At the £1,000 daily assumption, the starting delivery amount is £2,000. Add any separately quoted preparation, materials, venue, travel, assessment and follow-up, and use the VAT treatment confirmed by the provider. This gives you a complete proposal to assess rather than a day rate alone.

Allow for your team’s time too. Ten managers attending for two days use 20 participant-days of working time. Plan cover where needed, along with any preparation or practice between sessions. If the provider recommends splitting the team into two cohorts, ask for a revised total rather than assuming the original amount still applies.

How to compare leadership training quotes

Give shortlisted providers the same brief: the managers’ experience, the problem to address, participant numbers, location, timing and available budget. Ask each to identify its pricing basis, whether that is a trainer day, a group, an individual place or a complete programme.

Put the proposals alongside one another and compare the total commitment. Check delivery hours, group sizes, preparation, materials, assessment and follow-up. If one proposal includes coaching and another stops after the workshop, ask what the second would charge for equivalent support before deciding which fits your budget.

Ask who will facilitate, how the sessions will address your team’s situations and what managers will practise. Where relevant reviews or client references are available, use them to explore that experience. For qualifications, confirm the specific programme and the provider’s status with the awarding organisation.

For online and in-person alternatives, request prices against the same learning objectives and participant numbers, with any venue or travel costs identified. The profile dataset does not provide separate rates by delivery format or management level, so it cannot establish which option will cost less.

Before booking, make sure the proposal gives you a clear answer to three questions: what will the provider deliver, what will your organisation need to contribute, and what is the full price? Resolve any differences between the profile rate and the written proposal directly with the provider.

How we calculated the figures

TheTM’s 21 October 2026 snapshot uses UK-based providers with publicly shown day rates. Each provider contributes one figure: the lowest positive entry in either day-rate field across its eligible live trainer records. The General Leadership calculation covers 477 providers; the wider 68-subject leadership and management calculation covers 1,722. Medians and quartiles use linear interpolation.

Providers quoting an explicitly non-GBP currency are excluded. Missing currency settings are treated as GBP, following the platform’s method. Subject tags define inclusion in the catalogue groups; they do not independently verify specialist expertise.

These are self-entered profile rates, rather than a survey of the UK market or completed programme quotations. The extraction date is not a common price-confirmation date: a trainer record’s update can reflect any edit. Confirm the scope, availability and current price in a written quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much does leadership training cost per day in the UK?

Day rates shown on TheTM provider profiles under General Leadership have a median of £1,000, with the middle 50% between £500 and £1,500. This covers 477 UK providers in data extracted on 21 October 2026. The broader leadership and management group of 1,722 UK providers has a median of £800.

Is leadership training charged per person or per group?

Ask the provider to specify its pricing basis and participant limit. TheTM’s benchmark uses trainer day-rate fields, which do not establish a group allowance or an individual course fee. Compare the total quote for your required number of managers and sessions.

Are online leadership courses cheaper than in-person training?

The profile data does not contain separate rates by delivery format, so it cannot establish a price difference. Request equivalent online and in-person proposals, with the same objectives, participant numbers and support, and any venue or travel costs shown separately.

What should I look for in a management development programme?

Look for a clear fit with your managers’ experience and performance needs, a named facilitator, opportunities to practise and an agreed approach to follow-up. Ask the provider to explain how the programme will address the situations your managers face at work.

Do listed leadership day rates include VAT or qualification fees?

The profile data does not record VAT basis or detailed inclusions. Ask for a written quote that states VAT treatment and identifies any registration, assessment or certification charges. Use that confirmed total for budgeting.
